Here is another classic from the Hey Day of Science Fiction.

Written by one of the Great's from those days, Donald A. Wollheim, who also became the Publisher of DAW books, this tale of adventure, mystery and scientific discovery that, beginning on the Earth, treaks from one end of the Solar System to the other, is still well worth reading.

Now it can be read for free:

The Wailing Asteroid
by
Murray Leinster.

Available as HTML down-loadable eBook at: THE WAILING ASTEROID

This is an excellent novel from the halcyon days of the 1960's.

For whatever the reason, it has made its way into the public domain (a boon for all lovers of traditional Science Fiction).

Thanks to the Internet and "The Gutenberg Project" it has now been preserved for posterity in an (hopefully) un-perishable form.

I first read this millennium spanning tale as a teenager duringing the late 1960's and had all but forgotten the novel until finding it once again at a used paperback book store.

Now I not only have the paperback but also the electronic version of the book.

What joy!

#####

The tale begins in the present day (of the time the book was written, of course) with a tinkerer who, plauged by puzzeling dreams which have been with him from childhood, is attempting to build a new type of reactionless drive. An idea which has arisen from visions seen in the dreams.

As this project is under way, Astronomers announce to the world that they have recieved a mysterious radio signal from outer space. The signal is coming from a small asteroid, located in our own solar system!

The young entrepreneur, accompanied by two close friends, hurriedly constructs a small space craft and, powering it with his revolutionary new drive sets off to explore the source of the signal...and the adventure begins.

Do go to THE WAILING ASTEROID and down-load your free copy today.

This is a Must Read for all Sci-Fi Fans!

Thank you for keeping my thoughts alive.

An astute writer once advised all readers: "If you are reading and come upon a word which you do not know the meaning of, immediately, go to the dictionary and find out. Else you might well miss the single most important message in the book!"

I believe this advice could indeed apply to every aspect of our lives.
